{"id":795,"date":"2013-08-22T06:30:44","date_gmt":"2013-08-22T10:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michellematlack.com\/blog\/?p=795"},"modified":"2013-11-11T22:57:12","modified_gmt":"2013-11-12T03:57:12","slug":"guest-post-oreo-cookies-and-cream-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.michellematlack.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/22\/guest-post-oreo-cookies-and-cream-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest Post: Oreo Cookies and Cream Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<dl class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" id=\"attachment_810\" style=\"width: 160px;\">\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">[photo: Casey Tantum]<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p><em>Julie says<\/em>: If preference towards a type of food has anything to do with the perceived age and maturity level of an individual, then consider me a nine year old.\u00a0 Funfetti is my cake flavor of choice, and I consider ice cream to be a major food group of its own, right there on the pyramid between dairy and protein.\u00a0 With this said, you must understand the overwhelming feeling of excitement I experienced when I came across a recipe for a cake which not only looks like an Oreo, but <em>tastes<\/em> like an Oreo at the same time.\u00a0 Dreams really can come true.<\/p>\n<p>With that being said, when a coworker\u2019s birthday just so happened to come the same week as the birth of the Royal Baby, this called for a celebration\u2026 and an excuse for me to make one of my favorite treats.\u00a0 Besides, what screams royalty more than a cake made out of Oreos?<\/p>\n<p>Now allow me first to read your mind and answer all of your questions ahead of time:<\/p>\n<p>Q: <em>It\u2019s still beach season and I\u2019m allergic to fun.\u00a0 Is this cake healthy?<\/em><br \/>\nA: This cake is quite healthy, providing you with your daily dose of both Vitamin sugar and Vitamin whipped cream.<\/p>\n<p>Q: <em>Will I still be able to dunk my Oreo cake in a glass of milk?<\/em><br \/>\nA: An Oreo Cake, unlike your typical Oreo cookie, is too large to dunk into a standard milk glass, so cake dunking is not recommended.\u00a0 However, the cake is quite rich so I would suggest having a glass of milk nearby.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oreo Cookies and Cream Cake<\/strong><br \/>\nCourtesy of Julie Giffin (<a href=\"mailto:Julie.Giffin@gmail.com\">Julie.Giffin@gmail.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>1 Box white cake mix<br \/>\nEggs, water and oil as called for on the box<br \/>\n15 Oreos, crushed<\/p>\n<p>1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened<br \/>\n1 16-ounce box powdered sugar<br \/>\n1 8-ounce container Cool whip, room temperature<br \/>\n15 Oreos, crushed<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p><em>Cake<\/em>: Grease and flour two 8\u2033 pans.\u00a0 Prepare cake batter according to package directions (or your own recipe) and set aside.\u00a0 Put 15 Oreos into a Ziploc bag and smash yourself into oblivion until you have a bag of delicious chocolately crumbs. Stir the crushed Oreos into the batter before dividing between the two prepared pans.\u00a0 Bake as directed on box or in recipe.\u00a0 Remove cake layers from oven and allow to cool completely on cooling rack.<\/p>\n<p><em>Frosting<\/em>: In mixer, cream the cream cheese and sugar. Add vanilla, mix well, and stir in Cool whip by hand (do not beat it in or your frosting will turn out runny). Mix well. Fold in the remaining 15 crushed Oreos until well blended.\u00a0 Keep in mind that you\u2019ll have a fairly lumpy icing, but it adds to the fun. Frost cooled cake and refrigerate cake until ready to serve and refrigerate any leftovers.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chef\u2019s Secret<\/em>: Use remaining Oreos to decorate the top of the cake by splitting in half and arranging on the top of the cake, chocolate side facing up.\u00a0 OR you could always eat them.\u00a0 The cake is beautiful on its own and you deserve it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michellematlack.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/2013-08-06-21.54.19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-912 aligncenter\" alt=\"SAMSUNG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michellematlack.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/2013-08-06-21.54.19-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0*****<\/p>\n<p><em>Michelle says<\/em>: Now, I make a decent cake\/cupcake myself, so I can be a little jaded.
